I have gotten to a point where I am only 15 pounds overweight now. I will have a healthy BMI for the first time since I was probably 9 or 10 once I drop those last 15 pounds. I am quite overwhelmed by the fact that I have made it this far now... But I am so proud that I have. :)

So I am definitely moving closer to BC (Allston/Brighton area) on my own. I am checking out 3 apartments today. I plan on moving February 1st... AKA 2 weeks from this Friday.
I am wicked nervous because I obviously haven't done this before, and am a bit overwhelmed by the idea of packing up my life, but I am excited too.
I'll update when I finally have a place nailed down. :)

Woo, my federal loans actually happened! I'm going to be getting a 1 br apartment near BC now and I won't kill myself next semester! I am so happy right now. This is truly going to be worth it in the end.
Off to search Craig's list! :)

8:09 am - One year...
|
Haha, so you think this has something to do with Peter? No silly! I've been on WW for a year now. I've now lost 22.6 pounds and have 42.8 to go. I finally bought some new pants the other day. I have gone down 2 pants sizes since I started and I was even able to get a pair of pants that were just a L (no more X's here!!!). That made me happy.
Hey, I've lost 12% of myself since I have started (and yes you can figure out how much I weighed when I started and no I don't really care at all). That's pretty cool. :)
Oh, and I love Wicked. I need to see it again.
Peace out cub scouts.

You know, I've been so hard on myself lately and my inability to continue losing weight... Then I realized that I have lost 13 pounds and have kept that off for 6 months so far. That's something to be proud of at least. I realized that the WW program really worked for me, especially when I kept track of what I ate day-to-day so I bought a new notebook to keep track of stuff again. I have been doing great during the week, but the weekends kill me (drinking combined with lots of fast food because I am always at Peter's and can't exactly cook there). I'm going to try to bring healthy food with me now and try to account for my drinking because that is obviously a killer. And yeah, no more medium pizzas all to myself when Peter and I do the 00 deal from Domino's while he watches NASCAR. That has to be at least 5,000 calories. Yucky! I guess at least I haven't gained my lost weight back, but it's no wonder that I haven't continued losing.
Oh yeah, and that gym membership... I need to start using it on a regular basis again. :)
In other news my thesis is going pretty well. I didn't realize that my adviser was going to be gone so often, so that makes things a little tough because I can't always get in touch with her to ask questions. Luckily, we are going into the field together next Tuesday with the other member of my committee (who is an expert on the area) to check out some outcrops.
Also, I found this site with "bargain" safaris in Africa. Basically, they are really cheap because you do "cooperative camping" instead of staying in fancy hotels. They have a few different 15-day ones that only cost $795. The real killer is obviously the airfare (at least $1,500), but I am starting to consider this for either January or next summer. It would definitely be amazing...

2:35 pm - Summer update
|
So, I just finished my first year of grad school. I have a 3.83 GPA (Sorry, I got one A- and one B+, I'm over it). I got a summer research fellowship award from BC worth $5,000 so that I can do all of my research this summer. That entails a lot of field work (which makes me extremely happy), but also means that I should be able to graduate next spring since I should finish most of my research by the fall.
Meggy is going to be my field assistant this summer. Hopefully she won't mind getting dirty. Yes, I am paying her.
My thesis is basically dating when huge chunks of land crashed into Massachusetts. I am using MITs lab to analyze my data. :) This also makes me happy. I just have about a bajillion steps to select and prepare my samples before I can do that.
Peter and I have been together for a year and a half. Yep, this makes me happy too.
I'm have been stuck at my loss of 10 pounds forever now. I guess at least I haven't gained it all back. I love my gym... I just need to get a dead serious schedule set up again. That worked well back in March but I let my end of the semester stress be my excuse to not go.
A year ago I was about to go to Ireland. I wish I was going again. I loved being introduced to such beautiful places in the middle of nowhere. I need to go back. I found this website that has planned trips to just about everywhere. They are a few thousand dollars each, but they all sound amazing. I may save up to go to the Amazon or on a safari. Who knows.
ECJ banquet tomorrow... I'm looking forward to that. I miss a lot of people.
Thus ends my stream of consciousness.

8:05 pm - WGI
|
Katie and I are definitely going to WGI. We are driving out next Friday after I get out of my only class (at 11am) and hope to be there by midnight. We are staying at the Econo Lodge on Edwin Moses Blvd (right next to the UD arena). It should be a good time...
Let me know if you are going to be there so that we can try to meet up to hang out and/or grab a drink Saturday night after world class finals. :)

I am absolutely obsessed with my new gym. I love it. I am going to Planet Fitness in Dorchester now and it really is so nice there. I don't feel like I suck at life because I can't run at cheetah speed. It's making me happy. :)
Oh yeah, I'm on spring break.
And I'll be 23 on Saturday (meep...).

This has me a little stressed:
"During her return to Charleston Friday morning, Norwegian Majesty experienced technical difficulties with two of the ship's auxiliary power engines. This issue had no impact whatsoever on the safe operation of the vessel. The ship arrived in Charleston as scheduled.
However, due to necessary repairs which will take place in Charleston, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has cancelled the ship's December 30 sailing.
NCL is offering all guests on the December 30 cruise a full refund and a 50 percent future cruise credit of the amount paid for this cruise, valid for any NCL ship from now until December 2007.
At this time, NCL expects the repairs to be completed within the next few days and anticipates the ship's January 6 sailing will commence as scheduled."
Of course I am going on the January 6th sailing with Peter... Pleaseeeee have the ship ready! Especially since our airfare isn't refundable...

I am kinda freaked out right now.
I went to have routine blood work done this morning and had to fast from 6pm last night on since one of the things that they were testing was my cholesterol.
I got my blood taken and felt fine, but as I was walking into the waiting room I felt really dizzy. I told Meggy, who was luckily with me, and I sat down. The next thing I knew, Meggy was yelling and crying and there were a bunch of nurses around me. I had passed out and had a seizure... I have never had this happen before. In fact, I couldn't really say that I have had any health problems other than my weight. I guess you can have seizures if your blood sugar is really low, which mine likely was after fasting, but it was still really scary...
I feel especially awful because Meggy was so freaked out. I was fine after 5 minutes, but I know that she has been worrying all day...
Yuck.

So, I've been talking to one of the BC professors a lot lately about her projects. There is one that I really want to work on.
I would spend ~6 weeks in Greenland this summer mapping rocks. I would be helicoptered to my site and would camp there the whole time. No running water, etc... Just nature, rocks, and me (and my professor). I can't even explain how badly I want this. After the time in Greenland I would spend the fall semester at a university in Copenhagen, Denmark dating samples. Once again, could it get any better?
My professor just sent in her proposal for the project but she won't hear about funding until April (we would leave in July). There are two other students who are applying to BC for grad school and have also expressed interest in working on this project, so even if she gets funding she may not pick me. I know that I made a good impression on her this semester though, so I really hope that she does... I'm not sure if I have ever wanted something so bad. Yes, I am a dorky loser, but whatever, I'm over it. :-P
In other news, I have lost a total of 14 1/2 pounds now and grad school is going really, really well.

So Peter and I had our first anniversary a few weeks ago. He got me a dozen pink and peach roses (red are so cliche' lol) with help from Meggy. It was really sweet. We went out to a nice dinner and just relaxed.
My first semester of graduate school is almost over. I am going to talk to the professor that I want to work with a bit more this week. She has a project that I really want to work on. I would be mapping in Greenland all summer. It would be so amazing. Sure, I'd be in the middle of nowhere without showers, toliets, etc. for almost 2 months, but it would be great.
I think that's it for now.
Oh wait, I am sorry to say that I am a total loser. I am addicted to Final Fantasy XII. I blame Peter.

9:30 am - Cruiseeeeeeee
|
I just got Peter and my plane tickets to Charleston. We are going down a day early for the cruise (because I don't want to miss the cruise if it is snowing!!) and leaving a day late. I decided to check out what we can do in Charleston, and I am so excited!
I definitely want to do a ghost tour. There is one that focuses on brothels and such and it sounds so interesting and awesome. They are at 10pm at night.
Also, Peter is obsessed with the Civil War. We can go to the Confederate Museum as well as Fort Sumter. He is going to love it.
I am so excited about this trip. I still need to pay for our excursions at each stop, but I can do that later.

Woo for starting to pay off my student loans early. If I pay the minimum it will end up being over $45,000 to them in the end. Thus, my goal is to pay about double the minimum when possible. Yes, this will be over $500 a month, but I want to pay this shit off before 2028, k? Thanks.
